Terms of Service

By installing or using AdBlocker Shield, you agree to these terms. They're written in plain language — no legalese traps.

Last Updated: May 2025 · Effective: May 2025

Plain English summary: AdBlocker Shield is free. Use it to block ads. Don't try to hack it, reverse-engineer it for harmful purposes, or misrepresent it. We provide it as-is with no warranty. We are not liable if something goes wrong. Your data stays on your device.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the AdBlocker Shield browser extension ("the Extension"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not install or use the Extension.

These Terms apply to all users of the Extension, regardless of how the Extension is accessed or used.

2. Description of Service

AdBlocker Shield is a free browser extension for Google Chrome that:

  • Blocks advertisements and tracking scripts using Chrome's declarativeNetRequest API
  • Removes ad elements from web pages using CSS cosmetic filtering
  • Provides a dashboard interface showing blocking statistics stored locally
  • Displays a world map visualization for ambient awareness of global ad blocking activity
  • Offers YouTube ad-skipping functionality

The Extension is provided free of charge and is intended for personal, non-commercial use.

3. License

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Extension for your personal, non-commercial browsing purposes.

You may not:

  • Copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Extension
  • Reverse-engineer or attempt to extract the source code for commercial or harmful purposes
  • Remove or alter any proprietary notices, labels, or branding within the Extension
  • Use the Extension to build a competing product or service

4. Acceptable Use

The Extension is designed to improve your personal browsing experience. You agree to use it only for lawful purposes and in compliance with these Terms.

You may not use the Extension in any way that:

  • Violates any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation
  • Attempts to interfere with, compromise, or disrupt any third-party systems or services beyond standard ad blocking
  • Constitutes fraudulent, deceptive, or harmful conduct toward website owners or other users

We acknowledge that website publishers rely on advertising revenue, and we respect users' right to control their own browsing experience. The use of ad blockers is legal in most jurisdictions.

5. Privacy

Your privacy is paramount to us. AdBlocker Shield collects zero personal data. All statistics, settings, and preferences are stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API and are never transmitted to any server.

For complete details, please read our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Extension is provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:

  • Warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
  • Warranties that the Extension will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure
  • Warranties that all ads or trackers will be blocked on all websites at all times

Ad-blocking effectiveness may vary depending on the website, browser version, Chrome updates, and changes made by advertisers to circumvent blocking. We make no guarantee that the Extension will block every advertisement or tracker on every page.

We do not warrant that the Extension is compatible with all versions of Chrome or will function without interruption following Chrome or website updates.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, AdBlocker Shield and its creators shall not be liable for:

  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
  • Loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses
  • Damages resulting from your use or inability to use the Extension
  • Damages resulting from any ads, malware, or tracking that the Extension fails to block
  • Damages resulting from unauthorized access to your local data (governed by Chrome's security model, not ours)

In all cases, our total liability to you for any claims shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Extension (which is zero, as the Extension is free).

8. Third-Party Websites and Content

The Extension operates alongside third-party websites and may interact with them by blocking network requests or hiding page elements. We are not responsible for:

  • The content, privacy practices, or terms of any third-party website
  • Any changes third-party websites make specifically to detect or circumvent ad blockers
  • Any website functionality that breaks as a result of ad or script blocking

Some websites may implement anti-ad-blocking measures that restrict access to content when an ad blocker is detected. We do not guarantee that the Extension will circumvent such restrictions.

9. Updates and Changes

Extension Updates: We may update the Extension from time to time to improve functionality, update blocking rules, or fix issues. Updates distributed through the Chrome Web Store are governed by Google's policies. We will not push updates that introduce data collection without updating this policy and notifying users.

Terms Updates: We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated Terms will be posted on this page with a new "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

10. Termination

These Terms are effective until terminated. Your rights under these Terms will terminate automatically if you fail to comply with any of its provisions.

You may terminate these Terms at any time by uninstalling the Extension from your browser. Uninstalling the Extension will also permanently delete all locally stored data.
