QUICK FIXES
Fix
Ads still showing after install
Reload your current tabs after installing. Chrome requires a page reload for blocking rules to activate on already-open tabs.
Fix
YouTube ads still playing
Make sure YouTube Ad Skip is enabled in Shield Settings. If ads persist, YouTube may have updated their player — we push rule updates regularly.
Tip
Site looks broken with Shield on
Add the site to your whitelist via the popup toggle. This disables blocking for that domain without turning off global protection.
Tip
Block count shows 0
Browse some pages to accumulate blocks. Counts update as you browse. The dashboard shows lifetime totals which grow over time.
Fix
Milestone notification not appearing
Make sure Chrome notifications are allowed for extensions. Check Chrome Settings → Notifications and ensure they're enabled.
Tip
Whitelist not working
After whitelisting a domain, reload that tab. Network-level allow rules are applied on the next page load, not instantly.
FREQUENTLY ASKED
Yes, completely free. No premium tier, no subscription, no hidden costs. AdBlocker Shield is a free Chrome extension. If we introduce optional premium features in the future, the core ad blocking will remain free forever.
No. Zero data collection. All statistics and settings are stored in Chrome's local storage on your device. Nothing is ever sent to any server. We don't even have a server to receive data. Read our full Privacy Policy for complete details.
No ad blocker blocks 100% of ads on every site. Advertisers constantly adapt, and some ads are served from the same domain as regular content (like YouTube or Facebook), making them harder to block without breaking functionality. We update rules regularly to stay effective.
AdBlocker Shield actually speeds up your browsing. By blocking ad network requests before they load, pages load with fewer HTTP requests. The extension itself uses Chrome's native declarativeNetRequest API, which has negligible performance overhead and is the most efficient blocking method available in Chrome.
Yes. Whitelisting means you trust that site enough to see its ads — typically a site you want to support financially. Your global protection on all other sites is not affected. You can remove sites from the whitelist at any time from the dashboard.
By default, Chrome extensions don't run in incognito windows. To enable it, go to chrome://extensions, find AdBlocker Shield, click "Details," and toggle "Allow in Incognito." Note that no data is collected in any mode.
Right-click the AdBlocker Shield icon in Chrome's toolbar and select "Remove from Chrome." This uninstalls the extension and permanently deletes all locally stored data — block counts, whitelist, and settings. Nothing is retained anywhere.
Not currently. Statistics are stored locally in Chrome's storage format. A data export feature may be added in a future version. If this is important to you, let us know via the contact form and we'll prioritize it.
